Most people suffering from a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome held a common misconception that a TMJ treatment alone can relieve them of jaw pains and, ultimately, of the TMJ syndrome.

Since a TMJ syndrome is closely connected to other disorders such as plugged ears, neck pain, and fibromyalgia, addressing the syndrome by a TMJ treatment alone would not suffice. This is where the role of diet and exercise comes in.

Diet and exercise, in fact, figure significantly in any physical treatments that patients undergo. Diet can affect the pain associated with TMJ. Among the popular diet changes people incorporate in their TMJ treatment is the avoidance of foods with sugar, yeast and preservatives, cutting back on wheat and dairy, and eating more red meat for iron, zinc and vitamin B12.

Other than the content of your diet, dentists specializing in TMJ treatment also advise their patients to check the consistency of the food they eat on a regular basis. Softer foods are preferred over hard ones since overworking the jaw can add to the pain. Chewing gum and other chewy edibles such as candies should also be avoided to avoid stressing the jaw.

Besides watching your diet, there are also exercises designed for people suffering from TMJ. While diet and exercise alone cannot solve all TMJ-related problems, having them as a supplement to your TMJ treatment can expedite healing. In some serious case, it is advisable to seek the help of an expert apart from doing these exercises.

Most of these exercises can be performed at home. It would be wise to follow a strict TMJ exercise plan and take down notes for monitoring and evaluation purposes. The notes are also helpful during your visits to the dental clinic. You can readily answer questions related to your condition thereby helping your doctor find the appropriate treatment.

In doing TMJ exercises, make sure you place a mirror in front of you. Open and close your mouth slowly. When you have TMJ, you can easily notice that your jaw is not aligned. Repeat the opening and closing of your mouth for ten times to help the jaw re-learn how to open and closely correctly. Make repeated attempts at opening your mouth correctly.

To alleviate muscle pain due to TMJ, a different set of exercise is suggested. First, while facing a mirror, slowly open your mouth as wide as you can. Slowly close it. Repeat the opening and closing procedure. Repeating this step for at least 3 times a day can help you relieve your muscle pain.

If your jaw continues to click, close your mouth and move your tongue back then slowly open your mouth until your tongue moves away. Repeat this step twice. If you jaw shifts sideways, slowly open and close your mouth without shifting to the side. Repeat this step five times. If you want to ease the tension in your jaw, open your mouth downward and slowly close it.

In exploring the best diet and exercise plan for weight loss I wanted to look at complimentary ways to fuse practical health and fitness methods with the top diet and weight loss programs. I have reviewed several of the most popular diets having directly participated in some of them with positive outcomes. It's just important to note that if you don't feel like you are ready to embark on a physical fitness effort, especially to lose weight, you can do more harm to your body than good if you go to quickly. When evaluating a diet and exercise plan for weight loss, make sure you are comfortable with the plan providers recommended fitness approach. If not, look at a way to modify it that suits your needs and physical condition. Diets That Support Long Term Weight Reduction - My experience in physical fitness and weight loss shows that people who become involved in the preparation of their food, and focus on eating whole and natural foods, can make a lifestyle change that support sustained weight loss. The Diet Solution Program is an example (not the only one) of a diet you can follow that supports this philosophy. I say this because the physical fitness elements to the plan aren't for everyone. It's acceptable to make changes.

So in creating the best diet and exercise plan for weight loss, look at what works for you and modify it to suit your needs.

Research today is focused on constantly shifting your calorie intake to keep your body confused so it never adapts to your diet. This method keeps your metabolism high and gives you the best and fastest weight loss possible. This article shares a 5 day diet plan that shows you how to use intermittent fasting and cheating days to burn off the fat in record time.

Faster Weight Loss

By constantly altering your diet you stay one step ahead of your body and it never has time to adapt to your diet. To do this follow the recommendations below.

Day 1: Start with a Cheat Day. A high calorie day creates the right hormonal conditions inside your body to support rapid weight loss. The key to understanding why this works is to understand that weight loss is highly dependent on hormones. One in particular, leptin, is nicknamed the "anti-starvation" hormone and it is the one most responsible for slowing your metabolism when you fast or severely reduce your calorie intake for more than a few days. When you cheat or overeat you boost your leptin levels and this in turn keeps your metabolism high.

Day 2: Fast or near fast day. On this day keep your calories very low. The conditions are right inside your body for rapid weight loss thanks to Day 1 so use this day to drastically create a calorie deficit. You can further this deficit with exercise on this day.

Day 3: Low calorie day. Though not as severe as Day 2, this day you will keep your calories at a low level. This will vary for different people but generally the low 1,000 calories per day range for women and the mid 1,000 calorie per day range for men.

Day 4: Moderate carbohydrate day: You want to give your body a small energy boost on this day, which can also add back some of the lost glycogen storage (basically carbohydrate storage) into your muscles. Eat a diet with approximately 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% fats.

Day 5: Protein only day: This day you will completely deplete your carbohydrate storage again to keep your body confused and also prepare for your next Cheat Day the following day. On this day exercise to further deplete carbohydrate storage.

Repeat this cycle up to 5 times then take a break. Check with your doctor before beginning the diet to be sure it is safe for you and then enjoy the results.
